Elisabeth Perrault

Bio/Statement

Elisabeth Perrault Born in 1996 Joliette, Quebec, Canada; now works and lives in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal). She is a textile artist who expresses through mixed media sculptural installations that appear like surrealist allegories.

Her artistic practice narration's core is around Human Behaviors and explores the themes of the enduring effect of domestic violence, including trauma, anxiety, sexual abuse, and physical pressure.

Domestic violence victims carry a lifelong burden; they convey a chain of abuse within the next generations and develop the harm. Thus, Elisabeth intends to bring awareness by defining domestic abuse and its relationship with human behaviors for future generations' health. Furthermore, draw attention to this problematic social issue in the community.

As a young female artist, Elisabeth intends to reflect on her own lived experience that influenced her worldview and artistic practice. She expresses through mixed-media sculptural assemblage that takes the form of surrealist allegories to manifest a feminist identity; Utilizes textile, which is reminiscent of the human body. She believes that, like a second skin, the fabric is in a stable relationship with our bodies; A theme that is omnipresent in her works.

As she describes further, the human body is a compressed space that accumulates intangible concepts such as ideas, memory, emotions, sensations, and time, where the individual can exist; A place that can be subject to constant change, dwelling in contrasts. She aims to interpret the relationship we maintain with our body by sedimenting visceral feelings' exterior demonstrations.

Elisabeth's practice evokes the different forms of physical oppression manifested in our contemporary cultural and social systems.
