Laurence Veri

Laurence Veri

Statement

Laurence Veri considers the ceramic process as an extension of her sensibility, becoming a research tool to observe and mark our moving world. By the elusive nature of clay, its permanence and its flow, the artist questions our relationship to living and non-living beings that surround us. The figures stamped and engraved in clay refer to the natural world through a range of myths and lived experience. They adapt to the surface, sprout and metamorphose, living in an almost stoic state of latency, other times fruiting and wilting in cadence. Her fossil-sculptures reveal both love and death, strength and fragility.
